Can I take my laptop home?

Yes, you can take the laptop home to use for assignments and homework. It is your responsibility to ensure that the laptop is charged and ready for each lesson.

What happens if I forget my laptop for my lesson?

As part of the e-sgol agreement the laptop should be with you for each lesson, if you forget your laptop you can take part in the lesson by sharing with another student. You will have to catch up with work on your own laptop.

How do I speak to my teacher in between lessons if I don’t understand the work?

The chat function within Teams allows you to pose questions outside of lesson times that your teacher can answer. There is help on hand within your own school too.

Can I use the laptop for other work?

Yes, you can organise and keep other work on your laptop.

Can I view lessons again?

If the lesson has been recorded, you can view the lesson again. Assignments and work is kept within Teams.

What help will there be for pupils new to e-sgol?

All pupils will receive a training session from an e-sgol coordinator prior to their first session. We will also work closely with your school technician so they can also help you.

How do I revise for an e-sgol course?

An A level e-sgol course is the same as any other A level course and you would revise in the same way using the strategies that you have developed during your GCSEs.

What are the main differences between virtual and physical teaching?

Much of the experiences will be the same; equipment and training are provided to ensure that the experience is as smooth as possible. The main differences are the use of a range of software, through Hwb, to facilitate the learning.

How will pupils present their homework?

Teams makes it easy for teachers to set homework and for students to complete it and to present it on completion.  It is also possible for teachers to set specific completion dates and for pupils to see the marking when the work is returned. 

How will I provide feedback for assignments and homework?

Every teacher will have an interactive laptop, which enables staff to electronically mark the document.  The work is returned electronically and a record of the work will be kept on the system.  This will assist pupils in keeping track of the work received during the academic year. 

What happens if I miss lessons?

If you know beforehand that you will not be present in a lesson, you can record the content for pupils to access as well as setting them work. A method, which is actually easier than the traditional system.  In addition, if you miss a lesson at the last minute, there is a way for you to set work for pupils to complete at home at any time.   

Will the technology work?

Before any series of lessons, the technology will be tested by technicians in the various schools, as well as by the teachers who will be delivering the series of lessons and the project’s coordinator.  This will happen on several occasions.  The software is used in a number of locations worldwide.  The technology has worked well in locations in Ceredigion, Powys and North Wales during the past 18 months. 

How will I be supported with the technology?

E-sgol has project coordinators on hand to support you with all the technology. The school technician will also be there to support you.

How will I have to adapt my teaching style for online learning?

The content in traditional lessons and e-sgol lessons is very similar.  The teaching style does not have to change much either.  More importance is placed on the communication element of course, especially when making it clear to whom the questions are directed.  There is training available for teachers in this aspect. Videos and tutorials are available.

How will the school and e-sgol support me?

There will be training for staff prior to the commencement of lessons.  There will be regular help from the project’s co-ordinator.  Guidance on how to use the system will be available in both paper form and in the form of videos.

Will teachers be able to help my child if they don’t understand?

As part of the software, it is possible to ask teachers a question through a forum and by means of specific documents.  Some schools run tutorial sessions within the school to assist pupils.

How will my child communicate with teachers?

The software has a forum, which operates as an e-mail for teachers.

How will my child get to know the other pupils?

Pupils get to know each other during the video conferencing sessions within the lessons during discussions. Moreover, pupils will have face to face sessions integrated within the academic year to get to know each other.

What happens if my child misses lessons?

The system has a function enabling it to record lessons. Therefore, pupils can retrospectively watch lessons they have missed. In addition, notes made during the lesson recorded on the system. 

What about parents’ evenings and reports?

The parents’ evening for the subject your child is studying via e-sgol will be on the host school’s timetable. The same applies for reports.  If the teacher is not located on the same campus as your child, an electronic link can be created to save you from having to travel. 

How are e-sgol lessons quality assured?

The quality of the provision will be quality assured in the same way as traditional lessons, consisting of monitoring visits and internal scrutiny. 

How will my child present assignments and homework?
