The collaborative e-sgol courses are timetabled and learners will access the lessons from their schools. The collaborative e-sgol courses delivered by schools across Wales adopt a hybrid learning approach that consists of three main pillars:
The majority of the collaborative e-sgol lessons will be taught online, either through MS Teams or Google Classroom. When accessing the remote synchronous lessons, learners would use a designated e-sgol classroom in their schools that will contain a large screen (to watch the teaching), a webcam, and a suitable speaker/microphone. Learners will have access to the specific virtual learning platform in order to gain access to the lesson resources and complete activities and tasks.
To complement the remote synchronous and face-to-face learning, remote asynchronous activities and tasks will be used. These activities tend to be completed by learners independently and usually outside of the structured lesson time. The remote asynchronous activities allow learners to reinforce the work completed during lessons, but within a certain timescale.
To fully adopt a hybrid learning approach, learners will physically visit the host school at times arranged and agreed upon by the schools involved. It provides the teachers and learners with opportunities to build trust and relationships with each other and to complete activities that may not be possible virtually. The frequency of these face-to-face sessions differs from one local authority to another. However, face-to-face sessions are organised at least once every half term.
