Celebrating Welsh Performing Arts Online

Online Eisteddfods between competing schools

In 2022 Ysgol Rhos Helyg, used MS Teams to hold a school Eisteddfod between their two federal sites during lockdown. The following year, Felinfach and Capel Bangor joined in, to form an E-steddfod where pupils represented their school to win points for their individual schools!

The project was developed further in 2024 to include 15 schools during a week of E-steddfods.

Schools have praised the project as an effective way of:

  • promoting co-working between schools all over Wales.
  • developing schools’ Welsh curriculum and making pupils “excited to use the language”.
  • providing project-based learning covering the whole curriculum, with individual competitions and categories for all areas of learning.
  • maximising the effect of pieces learnt in preparation for school and Urdd Eisteddfods.

Testimonials

The event made our pupils excited to use their Welsh and made the staff feel confident for our pupils to compete in more events such as the Urdd Eisteddfod.

The event was organized so well and all the updates before the day were a great help. Pupils have enjoyed listening to other schools' performances, and learners who don't normally compete have had the opportunity to do so. The classwork competitions were also a great addition. The presenters were brilliant with the competitors, and everyone felt comfortable.
