Carlam Cymru

Empowering Students with Comprehensive Revision Resources

What is Carlam Cymru?

Carlam Cymru is a bank of videos that supports students with their revision. There are videos at three levels - GCSE, AS and A level - in a wide range of subjects, in both English and Welsh. The resources reinforce the fantastic work undertaken by teachers across Wales by offering additional support to learners who are studying for exams. Students can use the resources to study and revise independently.

Carlam Cymru commissions other videos in addition to the subject-specific videos according to need. The bank includes a series of videos on Revision Skills and on the theme of Wellbeing. The Wellbeing videos focus on the importance of taking care of mental health during the exam period.

What you need to know about Carlam Cymru

FAQs

Who creates the resources?

Experienced teachers from all parts of Wales are employed to create and present revision videos in a wide range of subjects that zoom in on specific parts of the GCSE and A level courses, with the aim of helping students to revise the correct things and to aim for the top marks.

We recruit teachers from time to time as required. If you teach in a secondary school and are keen to contribute to this project, please get in touch.

Where can the videos be found?

All the videos are kept on the Carlam Cymru Repository. The resources are available free of charge to anyone who visits the site.

How long are the videos?

The majority of videos are approximately 45 minutes long. Learners can watch them at a time that is convenient to them, and they can stop or pause, rewind and fast forward and watch them as many times as they wish. The PowerPoint slides seen in the videos can also be downloaded as separate files for perusal at any time.

Are these videos available for schools to use?

Yes. Carlam Cymru offers a wonderful resource for schools. Teachers can integrate them into their teaching, or they can be used as entire lessons when cover is required due to teacher absence.

What is the background to the Carlam Cymru project?

Following lock-down, Welsh Government was keen to offer additional support to Welsh students who were studying for exams and commissioned e-sgol to take this forward. That was the start of the Carlam Cymru project, with the first videos published in the spring term of 2021. Since then, Carlam Cymru has gone from strength to strength.

What is Power Up?

Power Up is a Welsh Government led initiative. It was set up with the aim of ensuring that post-14 and post-16 learners across Wales are aware of all the revision resources that are available to support them during the exam period. Several bodies collaborate on the initiative, including e-sgol/Carlam Cymru .
